ASA 103- basic coastal cruising

Duration: 3 days
Price: $1,150 per person

ASA 103 is a three-day course (9:30am–4:30pm) that builds on the foundation established in ASA 101. You’ll be introduced to the inboard diesel engine and essential mechanical concepts, refine sail-trim techniques, and learn to manage a broader range of weather conditions under sail. The course also covers proper anchoring, fundamental navigation, and practical docking skills.

Students put these skills into practice by selecting a destination on the chart and discussing how to sail there and back—considering timing, expected challenges, and real-world decision-making. At this level, the individual techniques of sailing begin to integrate and are applied to more advanced day-sailing scenarios.

ASA 104 (& 114)- bareboat cruising

Duration: 4 days, liveaboard
Price: $1,800 per person (private cabin)
Couples Rate: $2,700 per couple (shared cabin)
Add-On: ASA 114 certification available for $250

This 4-day immersive liveaboard course aboard our 58’ catamaran Pisces prepares you for multi-day cruising and international bareboat chartering by combining advanced coastal skills with real-world liveaboard experience. Over the course of four days and three nights, you’ll step into true cruising life—sharing responsibilities as skipper and crew, standing rotating watch, planning daily routes, and managing the vessel underway and at anchor.

Training includes advanced sail handling, reefing for changing conditions, multihull docking and maneuvering, anchoring techniques, coastal navigation, tide and current considerations, route and weather planning, and systems management such as water, power, and onboard safety equipment. You’ll also gain hands-on experience with the catamaran’s galley and living systems, preparing meals aboard and learning how to comfortably and safely operate a cruising vessel for extended periods.

Students apply their skills through real passage planning—selecting destinations, calculating travel time, identifying hazards, and discussing decision-making in varying conditions. Evenings are spent anchored out or at a marina, offering time to review the day, observe night lighting and buoyage, and experience the rhythm of liveaboard cruising.

Successful completion prepares you for ASA 104 (Bareboat Cruising), and students may add ASA 114 (Cruising Catamaran) for an additional certification. By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence and competence needed for multi-day cruising and international bareboat chartering.

ASA 106- advanced coastal cruising

Duration: 4 days, liveaboard
Price: $1,800 per person (private cabin)
Couples Rate: $2,700 per couple (shared cabin)

ASA 106 takes your training beyond bareboat-level skills into true advanced coastal passagemaking. In this course, you’ll learn how to provision and manage a vessel for extended cruising, plan and execute longer routes, and make informed decisions using tides, currents, weather systems, and advanced navigation techniques. Students gain experience sailing after dark, including night navigation, light recognition, watch rotation, and maintaining situational awareness when visibility is limited.

Training also focuses on handling a wider range of weather conditions—reefing strategies, heavy-weather considerations, and maintaining control and comfort underway. You’ll learn how to troubleshoot and manage onboard systems during longer passages, as well as how to respond effectively to emergency situations such as loss of power, steering failure, man overboard recovery, medical issues, and unexpected weather changes.

ASA 106 is ideal for sailors preparing for offshore cruising, passagemaking, or more challenging coastal routes where planning, seamanship, and decision-making are critical. ASA 106 courses are scheduled by request and may be taught aboard your vessel or ours, depending on training goals, timing, and conditions.
