ASA 103- coastal cruising

Duration: 3 days
Price: $1,150 per person

ASA 103 is a three-day course (9:30am–4:30pm) that builds on the foundation established in ASA 101. You’ll be introduced to the inboard diesel engine and essential mechanical concepts, refine sail-trim techniques, and learn to manage a broader range of weather conditions under sail. The course also covers proper anchoring, fundamental navigation, and practical docking skills.

Students put these skills into practice by selecting a destination on the chart and discussing how to sail there and back—considering timing, expected challenges, and real-world decision-making. At this level, the individual techniques of sailing begin to integrate and are applied to more advanced day-sailing scenarios.

Wondering what happened to ASA 102? It’s an optional course designed for smaller boats and racing-style skills, which isn’t the primary focus of our cruising-based program. Because we train mostly on larger cruising vessels, ASA 102 isn’t part of our standard lineup—though Captain Clay is certified to teach it and can offer it by request.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to seeing you on the water!
